Telling Our Representatives to Stop Supporting War

White Plains protest, June 15, 2005

On June 15, 2005, approximately 40 people peacefully protested outside a White Plains fund-raiser for local Democratic Party Candidates. The event was organized by NoWar Westchester to protest Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY18) and Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY17)'s continued support of the Iraq War.

On May 25, the House of Representatives had its first debate and vote on ending the war and occupation in Iraq.  The vote was 300-128 against an amendment to request that President Bush "develop a plan to provide for the withdrawal of United States Armed Forces from  Iraq".

All three Westchester-Rockland Congresspeople -- Nita Lowey, Eliot Engel and Sue Kelly -- voted against the amendment. Most Democrats (122-79) supported it. Our Representatives have repeatedly voted to spend hundreds of billions of our tax dollars to support occupation, killing and dying in Iraq.
